Audophile Confession

Audiophile Confession

I have been an avid audiophile since the 1970s. I am also a bit of a throwback gearhead. From 1980s pro gear to modern tube designs, I have filtered through too much stuff!  Recently, I have settled back into tube amplifiers, and I am auditioning a Rogue Audio Chronos Magnum II integrated amplifier in my system.  The Chronos design, like many others, has “selectable” speaker output impedance. But you have to pull the four KT120 power tubes, remove the top cover, and swap wiring inside the unit. During reassembly I broke the center spigot/key and let the air into one of the K120 tubes.  This is the first time I have broken a tube!  I have removed failed tubes. I have had to let the air into a TV tube when replacing it, but I have NEVER accidentally damaged one of our precious hot glowing artifacts.

So this is my penance: with five Hail Marys and a bowed head, I traveled to my local audio Mecca to acquire a new KT120.  With humble apologies to the god of tubes and a little shade thrown at Rogue Audio for the hardware design, the music flows again.

Tongue planted firmly in cheek--

Listen to some of your favorite music and find something new to enjoy.  Your psyche will reward you
